The National Association of Drainage Contractors (NADC) and Energy & Utility Skills has announced that a new Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) training scheme for the drainage and sewer industry will be launched at the beginning of November. The new training programme complements the SHEA schemes already in place for the water, power, gas and waste industries, making a complete set for the utilities sector.
As with all other schemes in the Energy & Utility Skills’ SHEA portfolio, the new SHEA Drains and Sewer scheme will be a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Partner card, offering CSCS cards to all candidates who are successful in completing the training and assessment. The scheme is designed for all persons who operate in the field regardless of their operational level, including supervisors and managers.
Carole Bishop, Head of Registration Services at Energy & Utility Skills commented:
‘We are pleased to have worked with NADC in the development of SHEA Drains and Sewers, which extends our range of SHEA schemes to the drainage and sewer industry. It is a natural fit with the established SHEA schemes for the water, gas and power utility industries as well as those for the Telecoms, Waste and Resource Management, and Cross-Country Pipeline (CCP) industries.’
Peter Stacey, Chairman of NADC said
‘We would like to thank Energy & Utility Skills for delivering this important new training scheme for our industry and have been delighted to assist in the development of the course which will be a ‘game changer’ for our industry. Not only will this new course become a pre-requisite for contractors signing up to the new DrainSafe Quality and Approved Contractors scheme which will be launched in 2021, it will also form a fundamental element of the NADC suite of qualifications offered to members. We believe that the course will prove extremely popular with contractors particularly as it provides a CSCS Card for all successful candidates.’
The new SHEA scheme complements the existing range of Energy & Utility Skills training schemes offered by the NADC covering water jetting, CCTV and electro-mechanical repairs. The NADC Board have mandated that all contractor members should undertake the new SHEA Drains and Sewers course as well as the relevant courses for the services that they provide.
